The first line of defense
The back sheet, this last layer of plastic that covers the back of a solar panel, pretty basic and insignificant right?

Wrong. Very wrong. While it is the last layer of a panel, it is one of the first line of protection against a lot of various threats and has to protect against them for 25 long years.
- Ultraviolet radiations
- Humidity
- Vapor penetration
- Dryness
- Wind
- Dust
- Sand
- Chemicals
- Scratches (during installation and maintenance)
- Temperature variations (Panels can operate between -40 up to an effective temperature of 85°C)
A bad quality back sheet can also be extremely dangerous to installers and maintenance workers as it is the only layer of protection against the DC current produced by the cells.
While the cost of the back sheet represents only 3 to 4 % of the total cost of a panel, its critical importance far outweighs its cost contribution.
When sourcing which material to use for its back sheet, Eco Green Energy chose not to cut its production costs and save that 1% price difference. Eco Green Energy chose the best material available on the market .
To be on the safe side, do not hesitate to ask for Bill of Material and certifications (such as IEC 61215 and 61730 or UL1703) when buying panels. This way, you will know why you paid for that extra 1%.
