Here are three main key points of the half-cut PV modules:
Reduce the panel’s power loss. By cutting solar cells in half, promotes lower resistive losses and durability as electricity moves throughout cells and wires in a solar panel.
Higher shade tolerance. Half-cut cells are more resistant to the effects of shade. It is due to the wiring methods used to connect half-cut cells in a panel.
Resistance to the hot spots damage. When one solar cell in a panel cell string is shaded, all the unshaded cells can dump the energy they produce into the first shaded cell as heat. This phenomenon also creates a hot spot that can potentially damage the solar panel. In fact, in half-cut modules, the area of shaded cells is smaller to radiate heat. That means, the total amount of heat produced should be less damaging to the panel.
