Ammonia Corrosion is a corrosive attack on a material that is caused by the interactions between it and ammonia. In fact, agricultural buildings often have large roof surfaces which are ideal for installing solar PV systems. Therefore, when it comes to utility-scale projects or solar farms, resistance to corrosive ammonia (NH3) plays an important role in the long-term performance of solar modules. Thus, an ammonia corrosion certificate is a must to do.
Eco Green Energy had its monocrystalline high-performance modules ATLAS and ATLAS PRO series tested for their resistance to ammonia.
Ammonia Corrosion Testing Standards
IEC 62716:2013 is the testing standard for ammonia corrosion for solar panels. It describes test sequences useful to determine the resistance of solar PV modules to ammonia (NH3).

On the other hand, all tests included in the sequences, except the bypass diode functionality test, are fully described in IEC 61215, IEC 61646, and IEC 61730-2. Moreover, the standard IEC 62716 provides means to evaluate possible faults caused in PV modules when operating under wet atmospheres having a high concentration of dissolved ammonia (NH3).
Ammonia Corrosion Testing Conditions
TUV conducted the ammonia corrosion test under high NH3 concentration. In addition, the test also considered temperature and air humidity change.

What Causes Ammonia Corrosion
Ammonia, a by-product of decomposing excrement. It is ubiquitous where livestock and their waste are present. As we all know, it has strong corrosive properties. This may potentially affect roofs, gutters, and numerous other metal components of buildings if there is no special design to withstand the corrosion.
As a result, many farmers are uneasy about their planned investments in PV on their roofs. That’s why we need to produce solar panels of high quality and pass all the mandatory certifications to suit different situations.
Conclusion
Installation sites such as solar farms, chemical plants can use ammonia corrosion-resistant panels. Remember that Eco Green Energy produces solar panels only using Grade A raw materials. Make sure to work with a reliable supplier, which products are all tested in compliance with TUV and UL certifications.
